Happy Monday! (I know, it’s only Friday)

So this past Monday I offered some ideas on how to make Mondays more positive (even happy).  One of those ideas was to do something on Friday from your Monday ‘To-Do’ list.  I started this years ago and it really made a difference.  What was the one thing I started doing on Friday vs Monday?  Organizing my week.  For years I’d get to work Monday morning and sit staring at my task lists and calendars trying to wrap my head around the week, often feeling overwhelmed, under-caffeinated and substantially unprepared.  A few years ago I started taking 30 minutes at the end of my Friday to review the upcoming week’s tasks, events, meetings, projects, etc.  If I saw too many things crammed into one time frame I moved them around, organizing my week blocking critical productivity times and leaving timeslots in between projects to allow for unexpected interruptions, calls, etc.  Before leaving for the weekend I could look at the upcoming week from above and see it was realistic.  Before long I found that I no longer had that feeling of dread around 6 pm on Sunday anymore, and now when I get to the office on Monday I’m well prepared, with my favorite double-shot latte in hand, to jump into my week.  Give it a try today!

How to have a happy Monday

How is it that Monday gets such a bad rap anyway?  Apparently in the 1700’s workers had too much fun on weekends and called off on Mondays – which became Blue Monday and eventually the Monday Blues.  It’s common for people to dread Mondays, even starting to feel the ‘blues’ on Sunday in anticipation of Monday.  This makes me sad   : (

We shouldn’t have to dread Mondays.  So here are some ideas to help make Mondays more positive – dare I say – even happy:

Try tackling one or two of those things you don’t like doing on Monday before you leave work on Friday?

Make Sunday a healthy day!  Eat well, do something good for YOU!  Go for a walk, hike, ride a bike, read a book, spend some quality time with family.  And get a good night’s sleep.

Now that you’ve woken up rested and rejuvenated how about planning something fun for Monday like lunch with the team or an activity after work with friends?  Something to look forward to, right?

So there – a few ideas to help make having a ‘case of the Mondays’ less like a case of the blues and more like a case of the giggles!

The groundhog has spoken – darn it!

According to the NOAA Punxsutawney Phil has only been right 40% of the time over the past 10 years.  Nonetheless, the little rodent saw his shadow and, regardless, I’m pretty sure we can expect more cold, grey weather here for a while.  I talked with Tracey Morgan on WISR ‘Let’s Talk’ about ways to stay positive during this gloomy time of year.  Take a listen!https://anchor.fm/wisr-lets-talk/episodes/Specialized-Staffing-e1u09rg
